EXIF Purge: Limitations and an Alternative

EXIF Purge is a free batch JPEG photo metadata remover for Windows® by Uconomix Technologies. It's an offline and portable desktop application with a very simple graphical user interface. (GUI)

As the integral metadata remover of Windows 11 - the "Remove Properties and Personal Information" feature - leaves behind in JPEG files a wealth of potentially privacy-compromising metadata, a third-party relible tool is essential. However, EXIF Purge has a few limitations and drawbacks, making it less than ideal for the task. These include:

• Lack of a capability to select folders for cleaning files stored within them
• Lack of a capability to selectively remove different JPEG metadata types while preserving others. (e.g. Exif data, IPTC data, XMP data)
• Lack of an integration with the shell menu that allows to send files for cleaning from the Windows file explorer
• A timed nag screen is shown when files cleaning is finished
